Personality & Traits

General Overview Ogg is the typical Ferengi in that he is single-minded in his pursuits, however his love of toying with technology far outclasses his love of latinum. While he has accumulated a good deal of latinum, it was always a means to an end rather than the goal itself, much to the chagrin of his family, whom he hasn't spoken to in decades.

Personal History/Background Information Ogg grew up on Ferenginar, learning all the things any other Ferengi would be expected to learn. His only 'flaw' was that he loved tinkering with things more than making latinum, even if he was rather good at it when he wanted to be. His father would often lament that he had a natural talent for bargaining and because of it, he didn't care one bit about using it unless it was to buy some new gadget to toy with.

By the time he was in his 30s, Ogg had bought himself three Ferengi ships, 18 shuttles from various places, and more scanning devices and other assorted accessories thank one could count, and he was already bored with it all. He could often be heard lamenting that the Ferengi people had fallen behind a great many other people in the realm of technology and he would rather spend his days with people who appreciated a good circuit layout when they saw one.

Ogg wandered aimlessly through several different sovereign systems during his late 30s and early 40s, finally coming to reside on a small ship in a far flung corner of known space with a motley crew of all kinds of misfits and miscreants. Ogg contends to this day that the only reason he stuck around was because they offered him an engineering challenge at almost every waking moment by bumming around the galaxy in a ship held together by self-sealing stem bolts and a whole lot of swearing (which was provided by Ogg himself). It didn't even occur to him that they might be pirates until he found himself at the wrong end of a phaser rifle one evening while cussing out a particularly finicky plasma conduit.

At the trial, for what it was worth, his motley crew confessed their own misdeeds while making sure that Ogg, who hadn't even so much as touched the loot they'd scored over the years, got off with a few weeks of "occupational awareness training". He was imprisoned, mind you, but you wouldn't have been able to tell as he was usually seen roaming the corridors fixing something or other that was broken or forgotten in favor of more pressing repairs.

When his release date came, the prison Warden asked the Ferengi where he was going to go, to which Ogg replied, "Wherever I can find a technological challenge." This phrase led to a suggestion, which led Ogg to Earth. On Earth, he found Starfleet. In Starfleet, he found more challenges than he could ever hope to find in a rotting backwater ship. And so... he signed up at the ripe old age of 50.
